Building a Bigger Table

Welcome to Plain Living Home! I’m Kim, and I started this blog to share our family’s journey of living simply while we raise our family and plant churches. Here you’ll find recipes from scratch, sewing tutorials, homeschooling tips, and family projects that make everyday life both practical and joyful.

Plain Living Home grew out of our desire to encourage others to slow down, cook real food, teach their children step by step, and embrace the beauty of home life. But we want to experience these things naturally without the pressure of perfection.

Whether you’re here for sourdough recipes, homemaking inspiration, or hands-on learning resources, I hope you leave encouraged and equipped. Thank you for being part of our family—we’re building a bigger table together!

Church Planting in the Midwest

In recent years, we have watched our nation decline spiritually, morally, and politically. Division is greater than ever. America has turned from her Christian foundation, and the need for the Gospel is urgent.

In 2021, the Lord placed us in Sioux Falls, South Dakota — a growing city of more than 250,000 people, representing over 180 nations and 130 languages. From this city knew we could reach the people there as well as many surrounding towns. As Jesus said in Mark 1:38, “Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.”

Our First Term in South Dakota

We arrived in Sioux Falls with the goal of planting a church. By God’s grace, much was accomplished in just over 3 years:

Reaching the Next Towns: As the church grew, the Lord opened doors into surrounding towns. We were able to get into these communities with the Gospel, reaching into at least 5 other towns in the area.

We started a Bible Study in our home in November 2021. By January 2022, we had to move to a conference room in a community center. Shortly after that, we were able to rent and renovate a small building in the city of Tea. Regular attendance was in the 40s and we had visitors on a regular basis.

Several families really got plugged in. These families wanted to learn, grow, and do more for the Lord. They were attending discipleship, going on outreach, and reaching out to their extended families with the gospel.

Souls Saved: We witnessed men, women, and children place their faith in Christ for salvation. Many were baptized and discipled and the church grew to 40-50 people consistently attending.

Discipleship: We ran a discipleship program to ground new believers in the faith, preparing them to serve and to lead. Discipleship included group classes, one on one meetings, and whole family sessions.

Our Vision

reaching the midwest with the gospel

The Upper Midwest is dotted with small towns — often no more than a few hundred to a few thousand people — and nearly all are steeped in Catholicism, Lutheranism, or no faith at all. The fields are white unto harvest.

Our vision is simple and biblical:

  • To evangelize through door-to-door visitation, public preaching, and evangelistic meetings. We need to reach the nexts towns across the upper midwest.
  • To disciple those who come to Christ, teaching them to obey the Scriptures. This portion of ministry showed so much fruit in our first term.
  • To train leaders from among the converts who can carry the Gospel into other communities. Our family alone can’t reach the upper midwest, but with help, we can see it happen.
  • To plant churches not only in Sioux Falls, but all throughout the Upper Midwest.

Our prayer has always been that the Lord will establish a “Bible Belt” across the Upper Midwest.

How You Can Help

We are currently raising the support needed to return to the field for our next term. Would you prayerfully consider:

  • Partnering financially with our family so that we can continue the work without delay?
  • Praying faithfully for souls to be saved, for disciples to be grounded, and for churches to be planted across the Upper Midwest?

Together, by God’s grace, we can shine the light of Christ into one of the darkest regions of our nation.

For His Glory,

The Pannell Family
